The UK Teratology Information Service (UKTIS) is funded by the Health Protection Agency to provide a 24-hour service on all aspects of toxicity of drugs and chemicals in pregnancy throughout the United Kingdom. Additional funding is given by the Health & Safety Executive to monitor occupational and environmental exposure to chemicals. We also conduct pro-active monitoring of specific hazards, risk assessment, and prospective
follow-up of selected cases to expand data for use in future enquiries and to generate hypotheses that can be tested in epidemiological studies. UKTIS is a founder member of the European Network of Teratology Information Services (ENTIS) established in 1990.
Our summaries of drug and chemical safety in pregnancy are available to UK NHS healthcare professionals, via the internet, from the Toxbase website.
Further information can be obtained from our website, www.UKTIS.org.
